Before You Buy
You should purchase the Loop monitoring kit if you don’t have a smart meter. If you do have a smart meter, you can link it to the Loop system and enjoy the benefits for free – no purchase required.
Further information on compatibility is available on our Knowledge Base
Loop is only available via an app on either iPhone or Android handsets – there is no logged-in web portal. You cannot view Loop data via a website.
The Loop app is currently compatible with Apple iPhones, from 5S onwards, and with Android handsets running version 7 or later.
We currently support mainland UK households only. Please register for updates at the foot of the page and we’ll let you know when this changes.
You need access to your meter cupboard to install the Loop Clip and for this to be within 30 meters of your broadband router.
Loop works equally well with all electricity meter types – analogue, digital, smart meter and pre-payment:
If you have 4 cables: clip on the RIGHT HAND CABLE.
If you have 4 cables with a special connector, leaving only 2 cables visible: clip on RIGHT HAND CABLE.
If you have 5 cables: clip on the LEFT HAND CABLE.
If you have 5 cables with a special connector, leaving only 3 cables visible: this configuration is not supported – unfortunately you are unable to use Loop.
If you are in any doubt about compatibility, please email [email protected] with a photograph of your meter and cabling.
Loop is not currently compatible with Economy 10 meters
Loop is not currently compatible with three-phase supplies
Loop is compatible with Economy 7 meters but there are inaccuracies in the cost calculations as we currently calculate a “blended” price per kWk of electricity and apply that to all energy used through the day and night. See here for more details.
The Loop kit is compatible with solar installations however this currently comes with caveats:
We do not, currently, show solar generation or export in the app.
The Live view is also confused when your solar panels are producing power – if you are exporting power to the grid, this will be shown as a positive number on the Live view i.e. you will see your exported power as usage in the Live view. At night or when you are importing grid power, Live will show you an accurate reading for your grid power use.
Because our calculations of your Phantom Load are based on your Grid usage, this will also be inaccurate for households with Solar.
In the Track section, where you can see your Day, Week and Month view, the numbers shown here are accurate reflections of your imported grid power – so, what you should see is that during the day when your solar panels are producing power, your imported grid power is very low/showing zero. When it gets dark, your grid power use increases. So Track shows you an accurate picture of the grid power you use each day, but does not include your solar energy usage.
We are working on full solar compatibility. This will require additional hardware at additional cost. Please register for updates below if you wish to be kept up to date on product developments.
Simple, 5-minute setup. No engineers required, no expert installation, no new wiring, no batteries, just a simple clip that goes around a cable by your electricity meter and a small hub that you plug in to your broadband router.
What’s in the box
Designed and manufactured in the UK.
Made from 70% recycled plastic, our Clip and Hub have been engineered to give you years of trouble-free service.
Box contains: Loop Hub, Loop Clip, ethernet cable, power cable, power supply.
The Loop app shows you as much detail about your electricity usage as you’d like – from every 10 seconds to an annual summary, and everything in between.
See and understand your energy use like never before. Telling others to turn the lights off just got a whole lot easier…especially if you haven’t yet changed to LEDs.
A working internet connection. You do not need a wireless network – the Loop Clip and Hub pair using their own dedicated connection.
Your broadband router (where your Loop Hub lives) should be be less than 30 metres from your electricity meter (where your Loop Clip lives). You can use powerline adapters to bring the hub into range of the clip if required.
