What is the Great British Insulation Scheme?

The Great British Insulation Scheme, launched by the UK Government, aims to combat fuel poverty and reduce energy bills for around 300,000 households by March 2026. The scheme focuses on insulation upgrades, such as cavity wall and loft insulation, to help households save money and energy.

Insulating your home could save you an average of £400 a year on energy bills. Beyond financial savings, better insulation reduces your home’s carbon footprint. That’s why Loop is partnering with InstaGroup to make insulation upgrades simple.

What Does the Scheme Cover?

The Great British Insulation Scheme covers 90-100% of insulation costs, saving eligible households hundreds of pounds. For example, a typical £2,000 cavity wall insulation project could cost you just £200. However, for higher-cost projects, like solid wall insulation, you may need to contribute more.

The types of insulation covered by the scheme include:

  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • Solid wall insulation
  • Pitched roof insulation
  • Flat roof insulation
  • Under-floor insulation
  • Solid floor insulation
  • Park home insulation
  • Room-in-roof insulation

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the scheme, you must meet four main criteria:
  1. Homeowner: You must own your home (renters need landlord permission).
  2. Uninsulated Walls: Your cavity walls should be uninsulated.
  3. EPC Rating: Your home must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below. Check Your EPC Rating Here.
  4. Council Tax Bands: Your home must fall within Council Tax bands A-D (in England) or A-E (in Scotland and Wales). Check Your Council Tax Band Here.

Eligibility Groups

The scheme prioritises two groups:

  1. Low-Income and Vulnerable Households: This includes homeowners and renters receiving at least one of the following benefits:
  • Child Benefit
  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-Based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Tax Credits (Child or Working Tax Credits)
  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Pension Credit Saving Credit
  1. Energy-Inefficient Homes: Households with an EPC rating of D or below in eligible Council Tax bands.

What Happens If I’m Eligible?

If you’re a YES to all the eligibility criteria, you’re likely to qualify for a 90% subsidy on your insulation upgrade through the Great British Insulation Scheme. This could mean paying as little as £200 for a typical £2,000 cavity wall insulation project!

To make the process simple, we’ve partnered with leading insulation experts InstaGroup to help you upgrade your insulation quickly and hassle-free.
